About Gail

I was born and raised in the blue mountains of Virginia.  After college, I
taught English in northern Virigina and Texas, then cashed out my small
retirement accounts, sold my car, and went backpacking in Europe for a
few months – my first time abroad.

When I returned, I worked as an inner city case worker in Norfolk, Virginia
before moving to Atlanta.  One spring I attended an AHP conference at
Rock Eagle, Georgia, and that experience changed my course:  I moved
to Carrollton to get an MA in Humanistic Psychology.  It's also where I met
my best friend and husband, Dave.

After graduation, I worked as a psychologist at a day center for people
with developmental disabilities, taught briefly at West Georgia College on
the side, played electric bass in a few bands, and had my first calligraphy
solo show.  Dave and I married and were privileged to raise two amazing
sons, Austin and Stephen.

While the boys were growing up, I volunteered in the boys' schools and
continued to do freelance calligraphy at home, as we moved to
Mukwonago, Wisconsin and then to Mansfield, Ohio, where I began
watercolor painting, teaching calligraphy at The Art Center, high schools,
and libraries, and teaching math at the local technical college.

I became fascinated with Celtic-style knotwork and jewelry making and –
after moving to Sarasota in 2005 – there was the new adventure of glass
fusing and the opportunity to work with Three Hands Press in San
Francisco, designing original alphabets.

Aside from time in my studio, I practice yoga, binge on Netflix series,  do
genealogical research, travel, exhibit in juried shows in Sarasota and
Venice, and just generally enjoy life amid the lush vegetation of south
Florida.
